Instructional designers are often faced with a challenging dilemma. When you only have a limited amount of time and budget to create a learning experience, it's possible that you will need to make decisions as well as sacrifices. In moments where a decision needs to be made, which should hold more value: visually appealing formatting, or efficient and effective functionality?
We brought a few unique experts to share their insights in a roundtable discussion. Join Kryssia Kipp, Country Manager for the US Market at Genially and Peter Shea, currently the Director of Professional Development in higher education along with extensive experience in instructional design, as they dive into discussion around the balance between form and function in eLearning design.
In addition to a webinar recording, you’ll get access to additional resources and activities that will advance your ability to apply what you learn.
Learning experience designers need to consider where they should spend their limited resources and time to create the best learning experiences. In virtual training design, visual form can help learners better engage and digest content, and thus form may impact the efficiency of learning. In contrast, there may be times when functionality outweighs interest in aesthetic or budget limits the opportunity to hire graphic design talent.
As instructional designers, we have the opportunity to make the decisions around design. It's important to consider when visual elements are entertaining versus engaging learners and how your design choices impact the learner experience, either positively or detrimentally to the core learning objective.
